By installing and using Matrix Vault, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Matrix Vault. By using the App, you represent that you meet this minimum age.
Matrix Vault accounts are anchored by a handle (a @username, 3–20 characters) and a Curve25519 keypair generated on your device. You are responsible for keeping your device secure: anyone with access to your unlocked device and your PIN has full access to your vault and messages. We cannot recover your PIN or unlock your vault on your behalf. By design, there is no backdoor.
You agree not to use Matrix Vault to:
@email_matrixvault, @reminders, @weather, and similar are reserved). We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for violations of this section. Because we cannot read message content, enforcement is generally based on observable metadata (e.g. message rate, recipient cardinality, abuse reports).
You own all content you create with Matrix Vault. We do not claim any rights to your messages, files, browser sessions, or any data you store in your vault. We relay encrypted ciphertext on your behalf; we make no claim of authorship, ownership, or moderation rights over content we cannot read.
We operate a small set of system bot accounts that perform automated functions (reminders, weather, currency conversion, email bridges, and similar). These bots send and receive messages using the same end-to-end encrypted protocol as users. We make no claim that bot interactions are private from us in the same way user-to-user messages are: anything you send to @reminders is necessarily readable by the reminders bot we operate. Where this is the case, the bot's privacy notice in-App will describe what is stored.
We aim for high availability but offer no service-level agreement. The App may be unavailable due to maintenance, outages, or factors outside our control. We are not liable for any loss resulting from temporary unavailability.
Matrix Vault is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Cryptography is a moving target; we make no guarantee that the current state of the art will remain secure against future attacks. You use the App at your own risk.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or business arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any direct damages is limited to the amount you paid for the App (including in-App subscriptions) in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the App.
Some App features may require an active in-App subscription. Subscriptions are billed and managed through Apple's App Store; refunds, renewals, and cancellations are governed by Apple's terms.
You may stop using the App at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms, or where required by law. On termination, your server-side metadata (handle, prekeys, queued ciphertext) is deleted on the next scheduled cleanup pass; vault contents on your device are unaffected unless you also choose to wipe them.
We may revise these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced inside the App on next launch and the Effective date at the top of this page will be updated. Continued use after the change constitutes acceptance.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer-protection law gives you the right to litigate in your country of residence.
